Tour of a Big Solar Facility
Solar Over Louisville is organizing a tour of the first large utility scale solar installation in Kentucky. The new 10 MW solar facility at the Brown power plant in Harrodsburg went into full production in June, 2016.

It’s 3,000 times bigger than the rooftop solar system at my residence, covering over 40 acres. So it’s much larger than anything we’ve seen on the local annual solar tour. Should be pretty exciting have a tour and have LG&E staff tell all about it.

Tour details: On Friday, August 26, depart Louisville 9 am. We expect to rent a 15 passenger van, and will ask for a contribution of $15 per head. Plan to arrive at a Harrodsburg staging point about 11 am. The Brown power plant has no parking lot, so we have to squeeze into the minimum number of vehicles at a nearby location.

We need registrations by COB August 18th, and request a payment by Aug. 23 from those who are going to take the van.

Please use the link herein to register, which will capture all the information we need to provide to LG&E about people who will be in the tour party.

Also a good idea if you reply by email and tell me if you (or a group) are going to come. (If we get a lot of sign-ups, we’ll have to adjust the transportation). [mcmulw at Gmail dot com]

We expect to tour the power plant solar facility for about an hour, and then go to lunch in either Harrodsburg or Shaker Village. We will also have an opportunity to tour the Wilderness Trace Solar manufacturing installation, which is about 5 miles from the Brown plant. (Possibly a smaller group will do this). We expect to return to Louisville about 3:45 – 4 pm.
